19-Year-Old Muslim Charged in Stabbing Spree...

A teenager was due to appear before magistrates today, charged with seven counts of attempted murder following several stabbings in Keighley town centre.

Raheem Nawaz, 19, of Keighley, was charged on Saturday night in connection with two incidents, one in Victoria Road at about 10.30pm last Thursday, and the other outside The Livery Rooms pub in North Street about two hours later.

A 24-year-old man was stabbed in the first incident and seven people were injured in the second.

Two people were last night still receiving treatment at Airedale Hospital including a 44-year-old woman, who suffered the most serious injuries and was described as being in a serious but stable condition.

The 24-year-old man was also described as being in a stable condition. A 26-year-old woman, who had also been detained for treatment at Airedale Hospital, was discharged on Saturday.
The knifeman is believed to have walked into Keighley town centre after the first incident before attacking a crowd outside the Wetherspoons-owned Livery Rooms pub at about 12.30am on Friday.

Bradford Councillor Zafar Ali said: “My heart goes out to the innocent victims and their families and I hope they have a speedy recovery.”

Nawaz was due to appear before magistrates in Bingley at 10am today.

The incidents are being investigated by officers in the Homicide and Major Enquiry Unit of West Yorkshire Police led by Detective Superintendent Steve Payne.
