Islamists establish a bridgehead in Parliament, get Commons pass: MP and peer resign
Andrew Gilligan
In November, I disclosed how the new All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Islamophobia had unwittingly appointed a group of Islamist sympathisers called Engage (or iEngage) to act as its secretariat.
Engage are an extremely dubious bunch of people who have repeatedly attacked Muslim moderates and defended extremists.
After I publicised the evidence on this blog (detailed below) the chair, the Tory MP Kris Hopkins, and the vice-chair, Labour’s Lord Janner, requested the sacking of Engage as the secretariat to the all-party group.
Now, however, after what is described as an “orchestrated lobbying campaign,” Engage have apparently convinced a number of the more gullible members of the APPG that they are authentic representatives of Britain’s Muslim communities.
They appear to have been reinstated as the secretariat.
Their “head of research,” Shenaz Bunglawala, has been given a Commons pass allowing her unrestricted access to the building without passing through security checks.
Mr Hopkins and Lord Janner on Friday resigned both from their positions and from the group.
In an email circulated to members, they say: “It is our belief that the Group needs to be seen as above reproach and political leaning in order to maintain trust and confidence in its work.
“Whilst iEngage are perfectly entitled to express their views, we did not believe it appropriate for them to do so whilst continuing to act for the Group.
“An orchestrated lobbying campaign on behalf of iEngage since we issued our statement has only served to reinforce our opinion.
“However, after consulting with several colleagues since Parliament’s return from recess, it appears that this campaign has also persuaded some that iEngage should remain in place.
“Whilst it is obviously a matter for members to decide on what – if any – role iEngage should play in the Group, we no longer feel able to remain a part of it.
“We have therefore decided to relinquish our positions as Chair and Vice Chair, and our memberships, with immediate effect.”
iEngage has consistently defended fundamentalist organisations such as the East London Mosque and the Islamic Forum of Europe. It routinely attacks all criticism of them as “Islamophobic.”
It attacked the BBC’s recent Panorama documentary on racist Muslim schools – showing that some children are being taught anti-Semitism and Sharia punishments – as a “witch-hunt.”
Typically, it launched its attack before even seeing the programme. It was almost alone in this criticism – faced with Panorama’s clear evidence, even some of the usual Islamist suspects kept quiet.
It attacked me for writing about the East London Mosque’s hosting of the terrorist preacher,
Anwar al-Awlaki, in 2009 – advertised with a poster showing New York under bombardment.
It peddled the straightforward lie told by the mosque that no-one had realised Awlaki was a bad egg at that stage.
In fact, Awlaki had been identified by the US government two months before as a spiritual leader of the 9/11 hijackers – and the mosque knew this.
iEngage’s chief executive, and secretary of the new parliamentary group, Mohammed Asif, wrote to the Home Secretary to protest against the ban on the extremist preacher, Zakir Naik.
Mr Naik has stated that “every Muslim should be a terrorist.” But Mr Asif and iEngage said that Naik’s exclusion would “put at risk good community relations.”
iEngage publicised a grotesquely misleading report issued by another Islamist-sympathising group, iEra, purporting to show that three-quarters of non-Muslims believe Islam is negative for Britain.
As I demonstrated, this result – massively more than the true figure – was only achieved by systematically twisting the data as part of iEra’s agenda to sow suspicion and discord between communities.
iEngage has attacked the Independent columnist, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, one of the country’s major voices of moderate Islam, for her opposition to the niqab and the burka.
She is far from the only Muslim to be attacked by iEngage.
It is interesting that no Muslim MPs attended the launch of the all-party group.
There are countless other examples.
Acting as the secretariat will give iEngage a key role in preparing the APPG’s reports.
These will no doubt now follow Engage’s agenda of claiming a “rising tide of Islamophobia” in Britain - even though, as I detailed, the available evidence simply does not support this.
Haras Rafique, of the anti-extremist thinktank, Centri, said: “If Engage is promoted, it will not only undermine any attempt to tackle anti-Muslim bigotry, but will boost precisely the kind of extremist Islamist groups whose activities fuel anti-Muslim hatred.”
The feebleness of the remaining members of the APPG and their willingness to bow to an “orchestrated campaign” by Islamists has dealt a fatal blow to the credibility of the group.
No report it produces can now be taken seriously and no credible MP or peer should wish to be associated with it.

Lord Ahmed: Muslim Paedophiles Are The REAL Victims
A senior Muslim politician has blamed unhappy arranged marriages to cousins for leading some Pakistani men to prey on vulnerable young white girls to fulfil their sexual needs.
Lord Ahmed of Rotherham, Britain’s first Muslim peer, is the first politician to make a link between first-cousin marriages and sex crimes by Pakistani men.
He has spoken out after a spate of high-profile court cases where groups of Asian men have been sentenced for grooming white girls as young as 12 in Derby, Blackburn and Lord Ahmed’s home town of Rotherham.
Speaking out: Lord Ahmed of Rotherham, Britain's first Muslim peer, believes there is a link between first-cousin marriages and sex crimes by Pakistani men
Lord Ahmed, who wants an end to cousin marriages, said: ‘They are forced into marriages and they are not happy.
They are married to girls from overseas who they don’t have anything in common with, and they have children and a family.
‘But they are looking for fun in their sexual activities and seek out vulnerable girls.’
He said Asian men resort to abusing young white girls because they do not want meaningful relationships with adult white women.
‘An adult woman – if you are having an affair – would want your time, money and for you to break up your marriage,’ the peer added.
His comments come weeks after former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw provoked national outrage by saying that some Pakistani men look at white girls as ‘easy meat’ for sexual abuse.
Labour peer Lord Ahmed said: ‘I get a lot of criticism from Asian people who ask, “How can you say this about Asian men?” But they must wake up and realise there is a problem.
‘I am deeply worried about this as it has happened in my own backyard, and in Rochdale and Bradford.
‘This didn’t happen in my or my father’s generation. This is happening among young Asians. While I respect individual choice, I think the community needs to look at marriages in the UK rather than cousin marriages or economic marriages from abroad.’
Deep worry: Abid Saddique, and Mohammed Liaqat were jailed for a minimum of eight and 11 years respectively for grooming 26 girls aged 12-18
Studies have shown that 55 per cent of British Pakistanis marry their first cousins, usually from abroad. In Bradford, the figure is as high as 75 per cent.
Although marriages between first cousins is lawful in Britain, it is frowned upon by many who see it as a form of incest.
In America, the practice is illegal in 30 states.
First-cousin marriages among other British Muslim groups such as Bangladeshis or Indians are less prevalent.
Earlier this month, two ringleaders of a Pakistani gang in Derby were given indeterminate jail terms for grooming 26 white girls aged between 12 and 18 after plying them with alcohol and drugs.
Mohammed Liaqat, 28, and Abid Saddique, 27, were jailed for a minimum of 11 and eight years respectively for charges which included rape.
Both had wives through arranged marriages and had young children with them.
In Rotherham, a gang of five Asian men were jailed in November for grooming white girls as young as 12.
Since 1997, 56 people with an average age of 28 have been convicted of offences related to on-street grooming of girls aged 11 to 16. Of these, three were white and the rest Asian, of whom 50 were Muslim, with the majority British Pakistani.
A Home Office spokesman said: ‘We should not jump to form conclusions about national patterns of offending without further analysis.’
Health experts have previously warned British Pakistanis to reduce the number of cousin marriages as it is leading to a high number of genetic birth defects in the community.
Lord Ahmed was briefly expelled from Labour after he served 16 days in prison in 2009 for sending text messages at the wheel before a fatal crash.
Do muslims ever take responsibility for their despicable behaviours? NO!

Pair Charged with Calling for the Execution of Homosexuals...
Two men are due to appear in court charged with stirring up hatred due to sexual orientation in the first such case in Britain.
Razwan Javed, 30, and Kabir Ahmed, 27, are to appear before magistrates in Derby accused of handing out leaflets calling for homosexuals to be executed.
It is the first prosecution since laws outlawing homophobia came into force last March.
The pair were yesterday charged with distributing the leaflet, titled “The Death Penalty?”, outside the Jamia Mosque in Derby in July last year.
They are also accused of placing the leaflets through local letterboxes during the same month, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
The pair, who were arrested after a tip-off from the public, have been charged with distributing threatening written material intending to stir up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation.
Today, the two have become five, with Ahjaz Ali, 41, Umer Javed, 37 and Mehboob Hassain, 44, also now accused of distributing threatening material.

Muslim Cabbie Kicks Out Woman for Carrying Beer...
A MUSLIM taxi driver kicked a woman out of his cab because her shopping contained a 12-pack of lager.
Alison Dawson had just climbed in with her son and six bags of shopping when the cabbie saw the beer and said: “You’re not getting in with that.”
The stunned market stall holder was forced to haul her belongings out of the cab and across the rank to another taxi.
She said: “The driver looked at the beer and said: ‘You’re not getting in this cab. You can go and get in another one.’
“I was panicking because my nine-year-old son Lukas was not very well and I wanted to get home quickly.”
The 46-year-old furious mum, from Sheffield, has now complained to taxi licensing bosses.
“I was absolutely gobsmacked,” she said. “I’m sure he wouldn’t let me in because of his faith and I had alcohol.
I am not prejudiced but if he is a taxi driver he should do his job.
“I’m a strict vegetarian and work on a farm stall. I don’t say I am refusing to serve sausages just because I don’t eat them.
“I don’t believe in any sort of “discrimination.
“Does he stop people getting into his taxi when they have been in a pub?”
Alcohol is forbidden in Islam because its holy book the Koran says it makes one forgetful of God and prayer.
Sheffield Council’s chief licensing officer Clive Stephenson said: “We cannot comment on this incident in detail because it is an ongoing investigation.
“I cannot condone the response described by Mrs Dawson as we believe the vast majority of our taxi drivers offer a very good service.”

School teacher 'lived secret double life as cocaine baron', jury told at drugs trial
To his pupils he was just an ordinary teacher working in a busy secondary school.
But in reality Mohammed Sarwar was living a double life as a cocaine baron, a court was told.
As the alleged mastermind behind a major drugs gang he supplied large quantities of cocaine to dealers across a a major British city.
A jury heard he employed a staff of drivers who acted as drug couriers carrying up to a kilo of the Class A drug at a time to supply dealers across Manchester.
Nicknamed ‘The Teacher’, Sarwar, 30, acted as ‘managing director’ of the operation, issuing instructions and rules to his couriers, it was alleged.
Manchester Crown Court heard the father-of-one was strict with his workers, insisting they did not use drugs themselves and that they always looked smart and presentable.
The tutor, who taught at the 953-pupil Burnage Media Arts College in Manchester, is alleged to have orchestrated a ‘large-scale commercial enterprise’ selling cocaine and cannabis which included using a prison warder to supply drugs to inmates inside a jail.
He was arrested in 2009 following a police operation which bugged his car and kept his movements under surveillance.
Richard Vardon, prosecuting, said: ‘‘The conspiracy to supply cocaine was extremely well-organised, a large-scale commercial enterprise generating considerable profit for those involved.
‘At the centre of this organisation is Sarwar.
He was known by his nicknames, Baz, Bazza, but he was also known as 'The Teacher', for that was his occupation.’
Mr Vardon said that as well as supplying cocaine across Manchester, Sarwar was also involved in a conspiracy to supply cannabis to inmates at HMP Forest Bank in Salford.
Mr Vardon said that as well as supplying cocaine across Manchester, Sarwar was also involved in a conspiracy to supply cannabis to inmates at HMP Forest Bank in Salford.
The court heard one of his former couriers, Ben Davidson, 24, agreed to testify against him.
Mr Vardon said: ‘His evidence from the inside is vital in prosecuting such an organised criminal group.
‘He’s chosen a difficult road as someone who has informed. He will be regarded by those in the dock as a grass or other such unpleasant names.’
The former warehouseman told the court he was recruited into the gang when he lost his job and could not pay his rent.
He said: ‘It was a silly decision. Looking back on it, I’d looked at a lot of my friends driving about in £54,000 cars. I was struggling to get work, getting treated badly by employers, I suppose I got greedy and I needed a house.’
Mr Vardon said Davidson began work as a courier and soon became a valued member of the gang.
He calimed that Mohammed Sarwar trusted him to collect high value packages, including kilos of pure cocaine.
Davidson said he was provided with the rent money, a wage, a work phone (which he was told to dispose of every two to three days) and a rental car.
He said: ‘I took drugs, mostly cocaine, to dealers in the Longsight, Levenshulme, Moss Side and Wythenshawe areas.'
The court heard that, as part of his job, Sarwar gave him a set of rules to follow.Mr Davidson told the court: ‘He had rules, like tactics on how to evade capture. He said, "always be discreet, blend in, be presentable.
' "Don’t smoke cannabis, don’t register anything to your home address, no bill-paying, no registering on the electoral roll. If you’re caught, always say 'no comment' and never give your home address if stopped."’
He also claimed he handled sums of up to £100,000 for the gang and supplied a prison officer at HMP Forest Bank with cannabis and mobile phones allegedly at Sarwar’s instruction.
Davidson, formerly of Stalybridge, has admitted drug offences.
Sarwar of Ladybarn, Manchester, pleads not guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine and supplying cannabis to inmates at HMP Forest Bank prison in Salford .
Others facing charges are Davidson’s mother, Leonie Barnes, 47, Imran Khalique, 29, Asim Bashir, 22, Ali Rehman, 24, Leanne Bryan, 27, Zeeshan Jameel, 24, and Ali Khan, 22, who all deny conspiracy to supply cocaine.
The case continues.
Butcher slit the throat of his love rival with a foot-long knife
A trained butcher who slit the throat of his love rival, leaving him to bleed to death in an alleyway, was today found guilty of his murder.
Saheel Ahmed, 24, left the home of the defendant's estranged wife in Blackburn, Lancashire, in the early hours of June 22 last year.
The victim screamed and fled for his life when Naeem Butt, who had lay in wait for Mr Ahmed, pounced on him.
Slain: Saheel Ahmed, left, died in an alleyway after Naeem Butt, right, pounced on him, slitting his throat and stabbing him six times before going on the run

Butt, 38, severed his victim's jugular vein with a foot-long knife and then stabbed him forcefully six times.
The killer then left the scene in Warrington Street and called a taxi to his address in Johnston Street.
He changed out of his bloodstained clothes but left a pair of jeans behind with blood that matched Mr Ahmed's.

Later the same morning he boarded a train from Manchester to Edinburgh and went on the run for two weeks as he shaved off his beard in a bid to evade the police.
He was arrested after CCTV images of him captured on the rail journey were released by detectives.
Caught on camera: Butt is seen at Haymarket train station and a Total garage in Manchester after killing the man having an affair with his estranged wife
Mr Ahmed, who was married himself, had been having an affair with Butt's wife Shakra Ali.
The jury in Butt's trial at Preston Crown Court was not told that Butt had a previous conviction for assaulting his wife in July 2009.
He pleaded guilty to that offence after telling police he still loved her despite her having a number of affairs.
Butt chose not to give evidence in his defence of the murder allegation as his barrister told the jury there were 'considerable gaps' in evidence in the case.
Butt will be sentenced at Preston Crown Court tomorrow.
Despite trying to avoid police, Butt was caught on CCTV at Manchester Picadillly train station after his sick crime
Detective Superintendent Neil Hunter, from Lancashire Constabulary's Force Major Investigation Team, said: 'This was a particularly tragic case in which a young member of the local community was brutally murdered.

Detective Superintendent Neil Hunter, from Lancashire Constabulary's Force Major Investigation Team, said: 'This was a particularly tragic case in which a young member of the local community was brutally murdered.
'The level of violence used was incomprehensible and Naeem Butt deserves to spend a very long time behind bars.
'The murder was born out of a combination of factors, including rage, jealousy, revenge and also an element of honour.
'Saheel's family have acted with great dignity throughout this very difficult ordeal and have fully supported the police investigation.
'Our thoughts are very much with them and I hope that bringing Butt to justice for this heinous crime will provide them with a small amount of comfort as they continue to come to terms with their loss.
'Finally, I would like to pay special thanks to our colleagues at Lothian and Borders Police for their assistance with the early part of this investigation and their highly professional work.'

'The land of easy money': How the Somali woman who lied to claim asylum and £250,000 in benefit handouts described Britain
woman who lied about being gang raped in Somalia to claim more than £250,000 in benefits had moved to Britain after boasting it was the ‘land of easy money’.
Ayan Abdulle was jailed this week after investigators discovered that the story she used to win asylum – and later UK citizenship – was a pack of lies.
Now the Daily Mail can reveal the full scale of her fraud and how easily she was able to milk the benefits system for years.
Abdulle, who also used the fake name Amina Muse and is from Somalia, was living in Gothenburg when the authorities insisted immigrants learn Swedish if they wanted to continue to claim handouts.
She told a friend she couldn’t be bothered and moved to England where she knew it would be far easier to collect benefits.
She made up a story to gain asylum and gave herself and five of her six children false names and dates of birth, fraudulently claiming benefits on both the real and invented identities.
And she somehow managed to continue claiming benefits in Sweden for three years after leaving.
Abdulle was born in Mogadishu in 1969 but moved to Sweden in 1994.
Her friend Hodan Abdullahi Egal, who lives in Gothenburg, said yesterday: ‘Ayan liked life here.
She never worked, just took things easy and spent her time meeting up with old friends from Mogadishu.
‘But she couldn’t be bothered to learn another language. Instead she decided to move to England.
...reality: At the time of the 'attack', Abdulle had just given birth to her daughter in Sweden
‘She said it was the land of easy money.
She was convinced she would have no problems there because the system there made it far easier to collect money without proper checks.’
Abdulle arrived in London in 2004 with her first five children, now aged eight to 17, and her husband Raghe Adan, and claimed asylum under the name Amina Ali Muse.
In her application, she said militiamen had targeted her home in Somalia on December 1, 1998, shooting her brothers dead.
She claimed she had been gang raped while three months pregnant, leading to a miscarriage, and that her niece had been raped, tortured and beaten.
In fact, on that date Abdulle had been in Sweden giving birth to a daughter.
Between June 2004 and May 2010, Abdulle, who was living in Neasden, North-West London, claimed £261,358.14 in handouts.
The cash came from almost every welfare benefit possible, including income support, disability living allowance, carers’ allowance, jobseekers’ allowance, housing benefit, council tax benefit, tax credits and child benefit.
Friends and neighbours in London and Sweden said the only man who ever visited her flat was husband Adan. But in Sweden she registered herself as having married a 41-year-old named Hassan Mohamed Osman in 2007.
And the father of her sixth child, born in 2009, was given as Abdirashid Mohamed Omar, a Somali who arrived in Britain from Kenya in 2006 claiming to be the husband of Amina Muse. He was granted indefinite leave to remain as her spouse.
Abdulle was exposed when she fell out with some members of her family who revealed her fraud to the authorities.
A former friend in London said: ‘She was very secretive. I never saw her with a husband in six years. She changed her mobile phone number every day, you could not contact her.
‘She went back and forth to Gothenburg a lot and she once went to Africa, but via Sweden even though it was more expensive.’
Jailing her for four-and-a-half years at Harrow Crown Court for multiple counts of fraud and deception, Judge Stephen Holt described her actions as a professionally planned ‘cynical and dishonest manipulation of the whole system of asylum’.
Abdulle, who showed no remorse, cannot be deported after finishing her sentence because she was granted British citizenship in 2009.

Fraud Lives in $2 Million Mansion at UK Taxpayer Expense...
former asylum seeker living in a £1.2million house paid for by the taxpayer has been charged with benefit fraud.
Toorpakai Saiedi, 37, a mother of seven originally from Afghanistan, is accused of obtaining thousands of pounds to which she was not entitled.
Mrs Saiedi attracted headlines just over two years ago when it was revealed she was living in luxury in an imposing seven-bedroom house in West London.
At the time she was receiving £170,000 a year in benefits, including an astonishing £150,000 paid to a private landlord for the rent of the property -- equivalent to £12,500 a month.
Now Mrs Saiedi has been summonsed to appear before magistrates charged with housing benefit and council tax fraud.
It is alleged she had an undeclared bank account into which she received a secret income of around £16,000 a year.
This would have reduced the amount of housing benefit she was able to claim.
In all, she is alleged to have received around £30,000 in benefits to which she was not entitled, between 2007 and last year.
Mrs Saiedi claimed asylum after coming to Britain in 2001 with her children, a year after her husband Haji Rahmat Shah Saiedi, 47, had arrived in London.
The family, who were granted leave to remain, say they were wealthy farmers near Bagram airbase, 20 miles from the Afghan capital Kabul, but were forced to flee because of Taliban threats.
Their home has two large reception rooms, one featuring an enormous plasma TV, two kitchens, a dining room, a breakfast room, three shower rooms and a 100ft garden.
When the huge scale of her benefits was first revealed in 2008, the family allowed a newspaper to look around the property.
The visit revealed evidence of expensive games consoles, including a £160 Nintendo Wii and £250 Playstation 3, top-of-the-range mobile phones and two laptop computers, worth around £350 each.
At the time, Mrs Saiedi's son Jawad, a student who admitted he spent most of his time driving around in cars and playing snooker, said: 'When the council chose to put us here we did not say no. If someone gave you a lottery jackpot, would you leave it? When I heard how much the council was paying, I thought they were mad.'
Since arriving in Britain, the family have lived in several properties, all paid for by local authorities -- first in a three-bedroom terrace house in Enfield, North London, and then in a five-bedroom semi in Ealing.
Their current seven-bedroom property, in Acton, West London, is owned by Ajit Panesar, who bought it in March 2008 for £1.2m.
He said of the rent he receives: 'I have done nothing wrong. I can't help it if the law says I should get paid the amount of money.'
The Coalition has said it will overhaul the scheme -- the Local Housing Allowance -- that has allowed Mrs Saiedi to live in luxury.
From April, a limit will be introduced so the maximum rent that can be claimed by someone on housing benefit and paid to a private landlord will be £400 a week.
A spokesman for Ealing Council said Mrs Saiedi has been charged with three counts of making false representations to the local authority with a view to obtaining housing and council tax benefit.
She also faces one count of making false representations to the Department for Work and Pensions with a view to obtaining income support.

Tony Blair's Muslim sister-in-law wants him tried for war crimes
Former prime minister Tony Blair's sister-in-law Lauren Booth, a rights campaigner and Muslim convert, said on Wednesday that he should be tried for war crimes over the invasion of Iraq.
Booth, the half-sister of Blair's barrister wife Cherie, is in Malaysia for lectures organised by Viva Palestina, a British-based organisation associated with controversial politician George Galloway.
Asked whether Blair should be arrested and sent to the International Court of Justice in The Hague for war crimes, Booth replied: "Absolutely. He misled the British people and took Britain to war on a lie."
The conflict in Iraq was "an offence", she told reporters after a speech at a Malaysian university, saying it was organised well in advance between Blair and the United States leadership.
Booth has been a vocal opponent of the war in Iraq, and a supporter of the Palestinian cause, and in 2008 travelled with other activists to Gaza by ship to protest against Israel's blockade of the territory.
The 43-year-old, who wore a black headscarf that tightly framed her face as she gave an address on "Islam from the perspective of Western women", discussed her own conversion which took place 15 weeks ago.
"My friends think I was naive and stupid, they have rubbished me so much," she said. "Really, joining Islam is not a trendy thing to do.
"Friends ask me, don't you miss going to the pub?"
But she defended her decision, which came after a trip to Iran in September 2010, and said that perceptions about Muslim women were incorrect.
"I sat down in the mosque in Iran, there was such tranquility. I had the compulsion to pray and from then on I knew I was a Muslim," she said.
"Muslim women are not oppressed, it is Western women who are oppressed... Western women are bored, lonely and oppressed."...
HOW exactly did this numpty fund the trip? She was recently declared bankrupt. That is her debts exceeded her assets. Her bank and credit cards will have been frozen and unusable. Ah I see the pattern. The Ummah will fund useful idiots!Lauren Booth is, in my opinion, certifiable and converted to Islam less than 13 weeks ago. She has read just few pages of the Koran by her own published admission.
One of the people she owes the most money to? Her half-sister, Cherie Blair. Now she is threatening her brother-in-law with "war crimes" charges. Typical Muslim gratitude.
Lauren Booth's conversion to Islam seems to have followed a very common pattern. Her marriage broke up after she insisted the family move to the "romantic" French countryside, and things didn't turn out to be quite as idyllic as they'd hoped. She declared bankruptcy after running up too many debts.
Divorce and bankruptcy are certainly traumatic, but many Westerners have weathered such setbacks and rebuilt their lives without becoming "slaves of Allah".
Of course, as you note, due to her relationship to the former Prime Minister of Britain, she presents a more than generally "useful" useful idiot for the Ummah to exploit.

Islamic poster campaign calls for the murder of Home Secretary Theresa May
Posters issuing a fatwa against Theresa May have appeared in South London, prompting an investigation by Scotland Yard.
The Metropolitan Police are seeking the source of the Wild West-style posters, which claim the fatwa has been issued 'for the abduction, kidnapping and false imprisonment' of various radical clerics.
A fatwa can - but not always - be interpreted as an incitement to kill, and is an order issued by scholars in the Islamic faith....
A link on the posters directs people to a website which states: 'The current reality of Muslims living in Britain has unfortunately become very bleak; what was initially perceived by some, to be a malicious smear campaign against the Muslim community has now turned into something far more sinister.
'Subsequently, as a response to this extremely critical situation and having been left with no other alternative, a Fatwa has been launched against the head of internal affairs and national security, Theresa May.
'We understand the seriousness of this religious verdict, and will be releasing further information in due course.'
The website specifies high-profile Muslims such as Khalid al Fawwaz, 48, a Saudi Arabian with links to Osama Bin Laden who is currently fighting extradition to the U.S. on allegations of terrorism....
Fatwa: Whoever insults Muhammad, the Qur'an or Islam must be killed
Fatwa: "It Is Permissible to Have Sexual Intercourse with a Prepubescent Girl"

Councillor defends prayer walkout
A Portsmouth councillor has defended his decision to walk out of a council chamber because a Muslim prayer was being read.
Malcolm Hey, Conservative member of Portsmouth City Council, said that he believed the local authority should remain a Christian entity because that was the "nation's tradition".
Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Paula Riches had invited local Imam Sheikh Fazle Abbas Datoo to say a prayer following a Christian prayer at a recent meeting of the Hampshire council.
Mr Hey said that the ceremonies and heritage of the UK's government were closely linked to the Christian religion and he did not believe in "multiplicity" taking over.
He added that as a Christian, he did not want to take part in a prayer for another religion.
Mr Hey said: "Although I am happy to learn about Islam and visit mosques as an observer and have colleagues who are Muslim, it is different to participating and worshipping in the religion, the Gods we worship are very, very different.
"Christianity is our official religion and, although we have various Muslims in Portsmouth with an immigrant population of about 5% with the Muslim population within that, it doesn't seem appropriate when the majority call themselves Christian or have an affinity to Christianity.
"I am wanting to maintain the status quo.
If we start having prayers to Muslims, Buddhists and so on, how long will it be before we allow the Jedi Council to have their part?"
Ms Riches said: "It's very disrespectful and I will tell him so."

Surah An-Nisa Islamic Verses
"Whatever good happens to you is from ALLAH; and whatever misfortune smites you is because of your own action. We have sent you to mankind (O MUHAMMAD!)as a Messenger, and ALLAH is sufficient as a witness. He who obeys the Messenger thereby obeys ALLAH; as for he who turns away, We have not sent you as a keeper over them. ((Al-Quran)

Man stabbed to death and three others knifed as gangs from 'Middle East' clash in seaside town
Four people were taken to hospital with stab wounds following the clash between the two groups of people from Middle Eastern origin.
One man later died and another remains critical after the fight in Folkestone, Kent, last night.
Crime scene: One man was fatally stabbed during the street fight outside a flat in Folkestone
Kent Police have detained one man in connection with the incident and said officers are expected to make further arrests.
A police spokeswoman said: 'We are continuing to investigate a large disturbance which began at around 8.30pm last night.
'It is believed that a group of men gathered outside a flat in Marine Terrace where a party was being held.
'A fight took place between the group outside and the people from the party. Four people sustained stab wounds and were taken to hospital. Several other people also sustained a range of injuries.'
Police are searching the area as part of their investigation into the brawl
Marine Terrace was closed off this morning while police investigators search the crime scene for clues.
Chief Supt Chris Hogben said: 'We are investigating this serious incident which appears to be the result of a dispute between two groups of Middle Eastern people.
'We also have specialist officers working within the community to reduce these tensions.'
Detectives have already spoken to a number of witnesses, but appealed for anyone else with information to come forward.
John Forbes, aged 56, who lives in flats overlooking the area where the brawl took place, said: 'There are a lot of Middle Eastern people living round here.
'They congregate round by the flats where this happened, drinking strong alcohol.
'We came home late last night and saw the area blocked off, but I didn't see or hear anything.'
Resident Tina Alder said: 'I was out shopping in Asda when it all happened but when we came back we saw a couple of lads lying in the road.
'My partner took out some towels to help them but by that time the emergency services had arrived.'

White children in Birmingham 'a minority' this year because of immigration
Children from white families are in the minority in both Birmingham and Leicester, according to researchers.
More than half of those under 16 in the cities are now from black, Asian and other ethnic communities, they believe.
White children make up 47 per cent of the population in both cities, the researchers estimate.
Diverse: Education authorities say many different languages are being spoken in Birmingham schools (picture posed by models)
The figures, which are expected to be confirmed by this year’s census, mean that for the first time white children are a minority group, although they are the biggest single ethnic group.
A report on Birmingham suggests that the figures could be explained by a younger population, more white families moving out of the city, and immigration.
The report estimates that in 2006, 53 per cent of children under 16 in Birmingham - Britain’s second biggest city - were from white families.
It also forecast that the proportion of children aged under 16 who are from ethnic minorities will rise to about 64 per cent by 2026, while the proportion of children from white families will be 36 per cent.
In Leicester it is predicted that children from white families will make up 31.8 per cent of under 16s by 2026.
The predictions are contained in reports by the Cathie Marsh Institute at the University of Manchester.
The Birmingham report was commissioned by Birmingham City Council while the Leicester estimates are from a student’s dissertation.
At the time of the last census in 2001, 70.4 per cent of Birmingham’s population of all age ranges was white and 29.6 per cent from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, dominated by those with Asian, Caribbean and African origins.
It is predicted that by 2024 no ethnic group will form a majority. At present the total population of the city is just over one million.
In Leicester, white British people made up 60.54 per cent of the population at the time of the 2001 census.
Population: More than half of children in Birmingham will be from black and Asian communities, making white families a minority group, a report says
According to the University of Manchester predictions, Leicester will become Britain’s first city where no ethnic group forms a majority in about 2019. Leicester’s population at present is more than 300,000.
Professor Ludi Simpson, who led the research team, said: ‘In Leicester and Birmingham, the white group will remain the largest by far – though it will not account for a majority of the population as a whole.
‘These and most other cities are already diverse with many different ethnic minorities.
‘Indeed it is indisputable that whether the whole of Britain or its city districts are considered, there will be more cultures represented in more equal numbers than in the past.’
The findings for Birmingham chime with Department for Education figures released last January.
They showed that 43 per cent of children at Birmingham’s primary and secondary schools were white. Out of 148,900 pupils attending council-run schools, 63,800 were white.
The 2011 census is being conducted in March, when 25million households across England and Wales will be required by law to answer a range of questions including who is registered as living at a property, their age, their education and their ethnicity.
The results, the first official figures since 2001, will be announced later this year.

WARSI ON THE WAR PATH!
Wonder what you make of the BBC's coverage here on Baroness Warsi's accusation that Islamophobia is acceptable in the UK?
I notice that they ask for Muslims opinions of this at the bottom of the article. Perhaps they could also ask for the those who have victims of Islamic terrorism in the UK to venture their opinion?
Perhaps they could also ask for those families who have had their teenage girls abused by Muslim gangs to also comment?
But no. Warsi is right to speak against bigorty BUT she is simultaneously ignoring the menace that some within Islam represent.
Last week, she had a go at "right wing" Conservatives, now the Baroness sounds like an apologist for Islamic separatism from the State.Cameron really can pick them, and of course the BBC laps it all up.
What kind of dinner parties do you go to, Baroness?

British Cleric Calls Queen 'a Disgusting Woman'...
shaykh Asrar Rashid criticised the monarch for knighting author Salman Rushdie, whose novel The Satanic Verses outraged muslims and left him under a “fatwah” death threat.
His comments came during a BBC WM interview in which he also said Muslims should not fight for Britain in the Armed Forces.
He said they should refuse to serve on conscientious grounds due to British troops’ presence in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mr Rashid, who lives in Sparkbrook, makes his living as a visiting cleric, preaching at mosques around Birmingham.
He said: “If a foreign government invaded England tomorrow we, as Muslims, would defend these areas and our way of life.
“It’s not that I hate English people, or English soldiers who have gone abroad, or that I don’t feel for the mothers of these soldiers.
“But the fact is they should make conscientious decisions as well. We must only fight wars which are in our interest, and invading Iraq and then oppressing the Iraqi people and Afghani people, is not the English way.”
Mr Rashid is no stranger to controversy as he was arrested during a Hajj Pilgrimage last summer.
The Muslim Council of Britain distanced itself from the imam’s views. A spokesman said they were not representative.
He said that disrespecting the Queen, as the British head of state, was a “disgusting” thing for a Muslim to do. “As Muslims we are ready to show respect to leaders. We may disagree with some of the things she might do and say but that does not give us the right to be insulting to her,” the spokesman said.

'Wear the hijab or I'll kill you, cousin told girl': Muslim tells of terrifying phone threats
Mohamed Al-Hakim, 29, allegedly phoned Alya Al-Safar to tell her she must die because of the ‘shame’ she had brought – leaving her too afraid to leave the house.
He had already branded her family ‘bitches and whores’ because of her decision, the court heard.
Miss Al-Safar, 21, had stopped wearing the hijab a few days before the phone call.
She said that Al-Hakim’s mother, her aunt Mardhiya Al-Musawi, ‘wasn’t happy’ that she had stopped covering her hair – a step she had been considering for more than two years.
She received his call when she was with her parents and two younger brothers at their home in Hammersmith, West London.
Al-Hakim allegedly instructed her to play the conversation over a loudspeaker so that they could all listen at about midnight on June 9.
Miss Al-Safar, who did not have her head covered in court but did swear on the Koran, told the jury that Al-Hakim had said: ‘Listen to me carefully, it has been three days and I did not sleep.
Miss Al-Safar's mother, who gave evidence on her behalf, arrived wearing a hijab
‘I have decided not to go out of the house for two weeks.
‘Listen Alya, I am warning you if by the 19th of June you are not wearing the hijab back, I am warning you I will kill you and harm you. I am giving you ten days. You brought shame to your family, you should not have done that.’
Al-Hakim, who denies one charge of making threats to kill, allegedly said he thought the phone call might be taped but he warned her he was ‘not afraid of anything’.
Miss Al-Safar said: ‘He was calm. I was so scared, I really felt scared because my cousin was threatening me.
‘I didn’t know if he was joking, if he was just mad, or if it was true and he would do it.
‘He started shouting, “Listen to me, you had better do what I said.
‘I have seen you on the Edgware Road [a busy street in central London] and if I see you again I will kill you”.
‘He said something about harming my father as well.
‘I was so scared I didn’t want to leave the house and everyone in my family said, “Don’t go out”.’
iss Al-Safar said: ‘Then he said something like, “You all are bitches and whores”.’
Her mother, Fatima Al-Musawi, told the court that Al-Hakim had said: ‘If Alya doesn’t wear the hijab I will kill her or send someone else to kill her.
‘If I see her in Edgware Road, I will kill her dad with her.’
The 44-year-old, who was wearing a hijab, told the jury at Isleworth Crown Court: ‘I was shocked but I knew that he was very nervous, and didn’t believe he would do it.’
Miss Al-Safar’s brother, Khadir Al-Safar, said of the phone call: ‘He said he was tired, sick and ashamed of what my sister had done … to take off her hijab.’
The 20-year-old added that his immediate family supported his sister’s decision, but extended relatives were ‘really mad’.
When asked how his aunt reacted to the news, Mr Al-Safar said: She was so mad, really mad. There were big arguments between my sister and auntie ... lots of talking and swearing.’
George Papageorgis, prosecuting, said: ‘It appears that this cousin, who is the eldest in the immediate vicinity, took exception and gave her an ultimatum.’
The case continues.

Two mothers and their toddler children banned from council-funded playgroup - for being BRITISH
Two British mothers have been banned from a publicly funded women’s group and creche because it was set up exclusively for foreigners.
Emma Knightley and Kimberley Wildman thought the group would be the ideal way for them and their children to make friends.
They were encouraged to come by a mixed-race friend who attends meetings despite being born and raised in Britain.
But when they arrived for their first session, a female volunteer told them they weren’t welcome because they were British-born.
The Making Links group in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, was set up to help integrate foreigners and their children aged under five into the community.
It receives money from the town council and the Department for Communities and Local Government.
But legal experts warned the group could be in breach of the Race Relations Act, and faces action in a civil court which could order it to pay compensation.
WHAT THE LAW SAYS ON RACE
Nationality and race are protected under last year’s Equality Act. This states that people have a right not to be discriminated against, harassed or victimised because of these factors.
But the Race Relations Act 1976 gives permission for a form of positive discrimination, for example in providing funding for gay or lesbian groups, or advertising for a female social worker to help women who have been victims of domestic violence.
Caroline Herbert, an expert in discrimation law, said the two women could claim discrimination.
She added: ‘A case could be brought in a civil court, which could award compensation.’
Shop worker Miss Knightley, 25, who lives in the town with her 21-month-old daughter Imogen, said: ‘The first thing I was asked about was my nationality and when I said I was British I was told we had to leave.
‘She said “Are you not aware this is for foreign people only?” I said I knew it was trying to integrate people into the community but didn’t realise that meant British people and their children were banned.
‘I felt humiliated. You wouldn’t get away with a British-only mum and children’s group.’Trainee midwife Miss Wildman, 27, who has two daughters, Georgia, five, and 18-month-old Olivia, added: ‘It’s a real shame.
‘I want my children to play with children from other races and integrate in the community because that stops discrimination.’
When the pair were challenged last week, Miss Knightley pointed out that their friend, who is of Indian and Malaysian descent, was born and bred in Britain too.
The volunteer replied: ‘But her parents aren’t.’
Ministers said the group was ‘divisive’ and ‘racist’.
Last night the Department of Communities and Local Government announced it would effectively abolish it by cutting its public funding.
Communities and local government minister Bob Neill said: ‘It is a real cause for concern that monies allocated for community development are being spent in such a divisive manner.
‘Rather than building good community relations, such an insensitive approach that seemingly discriminates against British people threatens to undermine community cohesion.’
Justice minister Jonathan Djanogly, whose Huntingdon constituency includes St Neots, added: ‘I’m upset to hear that constituents have had a racist experience.
There is a question here of legality and also of sensitivity. Teaching people how to integrate involves allowing people to integrate.’
St Neots is in the heart of a region that has been a magnet for economic migrants in recent years because of the wealth of jobs available.
These include vegetable picking on farms and food processing or packing work in factories. Making Links is run by a charity called Heart of the Community Trust and used by more than 70 women from 30 countries.
The group is staffed by volunteers and receives £11,000 each year from a variety of sources. St Neots Town Council gives £1,000, while Faiths in Action, which is funded by the Community Development Foundation, a quango answerable to the Department for Communities and Local Government, hands over £5,000.
On application forms it sent applying for funding, it said that its weekly sessions help free women and children from ‘feelings of isolation, help them build multicultural friendships and empower them with knowledge about the local community’.
Making Links administrator Roger Owen said there were ‘plenty of other alternatives for British mothers in the town’.
He added: ‘We get the money on the basis it’s a group for ladies from other nations. We’re not sure they would give us the money if we were offering just the same services for local people.
Emma and Kimberley had taken their daughters along after successfully registering to join the group before Christmas.
But as they began to sit down at the Priory Centre, organisers realised they were British and asked them to leave
‘This isn’t racism. What we are doing is helping people from other countries.’
St Neots mayor Gordon Thorpe said officials had checked Making Links’ constitution before handing over its grant.
A spokesman for the Communities Development Foundation said: ‘It is up to [Making Links] to say who can’t come. It is not in the terms of the grant.’
But a Department for Communities and Local Government spokesman said: ‘We will not be issuing new guidelines but this group is going to be abolished by withdrawing funding in future and its public body status will be removed.’
A source at the department added: ‘We have not been very impressed with what they have been doing. We think it is a misinformed decision they have taken.’
A spokesman for the Equalities and Human Rights Commission said: ‘Whether or not this group is breaking equality law is a matter for the court to decide.
‘However, under the Equality Act 2010 there have to be good reasons why some people are excluded from using a service such as this.

Judge concerned after woman who was raped by husband drops case after community pressure
A judge condemned a Muslim community today for putting 'enormous emotional pressure' on a wife to drop rape charges against her husband.
Judge Simon Newell said locals from the woman's mainly Asian neighbourhood had impeded police and prosecutors because they wanted to protect the family's honour.
The Asian wife, 32, had been due to testify against her 34-year old husband before a jury at Burnley Crown Court after she accused of him of raping her twice.
The husband - who cannot be named - had a conviction for assault causing actual bodily harm against his wife and one for a sexual offence against another woman.
He is already on the Sex Offender Register until September 2014.
On the day of the rape trial, the case collapsed when the woman made a retraction statement to police saying she no longer wanted to give evidence.
The judge, 59, agreed to allow the matter to 'lie on file', allowing the husband to walk free but warned the charges could be reinstated if new evidence came to light.
He told the court the reasons for the alleged victim's retraction gave him cause for concern.
The judge added: 'It seems to me there are persons who have an interest in this case, who are minded to express opinions and exert influences which are possibly inhibiting the police, the prosecuting authorities and the courts in carrying out their proper functions.
This will not be tolerated.
'It is for the courts to carry out judicial functions and it's not for individuals or sections of the community to attempt to resolve these matters outside the court.'
Judge Newell said he hoped to set up a meeting with representatives of the appropriate sections of the community to try and resolve the problem and would be discussing it with Judge Beverley Lunt, the most senior judge in Burnley.
He warned the husband before he left: 'These charges may be brought back to court.'
The court had heard the husband, who is from Nelson, Lancashire, denied the two rape charges.
Prosecutor Sara Dodd had told the hearing the alleged victim was at court, but did not wish to give evidence against her husband.
The lawyer said the woman had put under 'enormous emotional pressure from her community' over the case.
Miss Dodd said she would not be proceeding with the case against the defendant as it would 'do more harm than good ' to the alleged victim.
None of the allegations were outlined in court.
After the case, community leaders backed the judge's demands for a meeting with Muslim community leaders, with a number of them calling for improved support services for victims of rape and domestic violence across East Lancashire.
Salim Mulla, chairman of the Lancashire Council of Mosques, said: 'There is a real problem and we have to accept that.
'The Asian community sometimes has a different way of working, trying to resolve the problems itself rather than leaving it to the police.
But that doesn't make it the right thing to do.
'The abuse of any child or woman is not permitted by Islam.
We will continue to speak about this issue and try to raise it in the community to stop it happening.'
Coun Mohammed Iqbal, Labour leader on Pendle Council said: 'There is a small section who may think their cultural identity is higher than the law of the land, but as far as I am concerned it isn't.'
Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson said generally rape victims may face strong emotional pressure when testifying in such a case, such as from family, but added those with an Asian background could also come under duress from their community.
Blackburn MP and former Justice Secretary Jack Straw - who recommended Judge Newell become a circuit judge in 2008 - said: 'The law has been strengthened around these issues but there is much more that needs to be done between the courts, police and social services.
'In these cases, because they involve families, it is the families and community that wants to solve them. That itself is a significant problem. I would welcome judges being more hands on and it could make a difference.'
Lancashire Police said it was not appropriate for the force to comment on the case.

Following Five Guys Named Mohammed, broadcast over 5 days at the start of the year, last night Radio 4 gave us Young, Muslim and Black:
Dotun Adebayo looks at why Islam is providing an attractive religious alternative to Christianity for Black Britons seeking answers.
Monday you can tune in for It's My Story: The Imam of Peace:Nadene Ghouri profiles the work of John Butt, an English Muslim convert who became an imam and is trying to spread a message of peace and tolerance across Pakistan and Afghanistan.
And Face the Facts on 27th Jan will be devoted to the issue of "whether sections of the British press are increasing tensions within communities by publishing negative stories about Muslims."
Across the first four weeks of 2011, no programmes or series on BBC Radio 4 will have been wholly devoted to any of the other non-Christian religious communities of the U.K.
Yes, Hindus, Jews, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists have all gone uncatered for by the allegedly diversity-loving BBC.
Only Islam seems to interest the channel's programme makers.Though nowhere near as obsessive, even its regular religious affairs programme Beyond Belief is guilty of weighting its discussions with an excess of Muslims.
Each programme has a trio of guests. There have been 27 programmes since the start of 2010.
Here's how the religious identity of the believing non-Christians breaks down in terms of number of guests:
Muslims - 15Jews - 9Hindus - 2Sikhs - 2Buddhists - 1Jains - 1OrMuslims = 15All the rest = 15Is that fair, BBC?
I think we can all agree that having Aaqil Ahmed (who happens to be a Moslem) as head of commissioning for religious programming at the BBC is purely coincidental.

Man arrested after 'burning Koran in city centre'
Police confirmed a man had been held. He had reportedly been standing in Carlisle city centre yesterday, loudly making pronouncements against the Muslim religion in front of a large crowd.
The man is then alleged to have set fire to the Koran he was holding before discarding it on the floor and hurrying away.
Officers arrived at the scene a short time later and are now investigating.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police confirmed that a 32-year-old man has been arrested.
He added: 'Just after midday on Wednesday, police received reports that a Koran was being burned by a man in Carlisle city centre.
'Police have seized the remains of the book and a 32-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of using racially aggravated threatening words or behaviour.
'The man remains in police custody where he is helping officers with their inquiries.
Would he have been arrested for burning a Bible and making public "pronouncements against the Christian religion"? What do you think? "Man held in Koran burning inquiry," from the Press Association,

Swords of the Prophet Muhammad (P-B-U-H)
Dhu al-Faqar
Dhu al-Faqar is the name of this sword, taken as booty by the prophet Muhammad at the Battle of Badr. It is reported that the prophet Muhammad gave the sword to Ali b. Abi Talib, and that Ali returned from the Battle of Uhud covered with blood from his hands to his shoulders, having Dhu al-Faqar with him. Many sources report that this sword remained with Ali b. Abi Talib and his family, and that the sword had two points, perhaps represented here by the two lines ingraved on the blade.
The al-Battar sword was taken by the prophet Muhammad as booty from the Banu Qaynaqa. It is called the "sword of the prophets" and is inscribed in Arabic with the names of David, Solomon, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, Zechariah, John, Jesus, and Muhammad. It also has a drawing of King David when cut off the head of Goliath to whom this sword had belonged originally. The sword also features an inscription which has been identified as Nabataean writing. The blade of the sword is 101 cm in length. It is preserved in the Topkapi Museum, Istanbul. Some report that it is this sword that Jesus will use when he returns to Earth to defeat the anti-Christ Dajjal.
al-Ma'thur
al-Ma'thur, also known as "Ma'thur al-Fijar" is the sword which was owned by the prophet Muhammad before he received his first revelations in Mecca. It was willed to him by his father. The prophet Muhammad migrated with the sword from Mecca to Medina, and the sword remained with him until it was transferred, along with other war equipment, to Ali b. Abi Talib. The blade is 99 cm in length. The handle is of gold in the shape of two serpents, and is encrusted with emeralds and turquoise. Near the handle is a Kufic inscription saying: 'Abdallah b. 'Abd al-Muttalib. Today the sword is housed in the Topkapi Museum, Istanbul.
al-Rasub
The al-Rasub sword is one of the nine swords of the prophet Muhammad. It is said that the weapons of the house of the prophet Muhammad were kept among his family just like the Ark was kept with the Israelites. The sword is preserved in the Topkapi museum, Istanbul. Its blade is 140 cm in length. It has gold circles on which are inscribed the name of Ja'far al-Sadiq.
al-Mikhdham
The sword called is reported to have passed from the prophet Muhammad to Ali b. Abi Talib, and from him to his sons. Some report that the sword was taken as booty by Ali b. Abi Talib from a raid he led in Syria. The sword is now in the Topkpoki Museum, Istanbul. The blade is 97 cm in length and is inscribed with the name of Zayn al-Din al-Abidin.
Hatf
Hatf is a sword which the prophet Muhammad took as booty from the Banu Qaynaqa. It is said that King David took his sword "al-Battar" from Goliath as booty when he defeated him, but he was less than 20 years old. God gave King David the ability to work with iron, to make armor and weapons and instruments of war, and he made for himself a sword. It was thus that the Hatf sword came about, resembling the al-Battar but larger than it. He used this sword and it was passed onto the tribe of Levites who kept the weapons of the Israelites until it passed into the hands of the prophet Muhammad. Today this sword is housed in the Topkapi museum. The blade is 112 cm in length and has a width of 8 cm.
Qal'i
This sword is known as "Qal'i" or "Qul'ay." The name may be related to a place in Syria or a place in India near China. Other scholars state that the adjective "qal'i" refers to "tin" or "white lead" which was mined in different locations. This sword is one of the three swords which the prophet Muhammad acquired as booty from the Banu Qaynaqa. It is also reported that the grandfather of the prophet Muhammad discovered "swords of Qal'i" when he uncovered the Well of Zamzam in Mecca. Today the sword is preserved in the Topkapi Museum, Istanbul. Its blade is 100 cm in length. Inscribed in Arabic on its blade above the handle is: "This is the noble sword of the house of Muhammad the prophet, the apostle of God." The blade of this sword is distinguished from the other swords because of its wave-like design.
al-Qadib
al-Qadib is a thin-bladed sword which, it was said, resembled a rod. It was a sword of defense or companionship for the traveller but not used to battle. Written on the side of the sword in silver is the inscription: "There is no god but God, Muhammad the apostle of God--Muhammad b. Abdallah b. Abd al-Muttalib." There is no indication in any historical source that this sword was used or in any battle. It stayed in the house of the prophet Muhammad and was only used later by the Fatimid caliphs. The sword is 100 cm in length and has a scabbard of dyed animal hide. Today the sword is housed in the Topkapi Museum, Istanbul.
al-'Adb
al-'Adb, the name of this sword, means "cutting" or "sharp." This sword was sent to the prophet Muhammad by one of his companions just before the Battle of Badr. He used this sword at the Battle of Uhud and his followers used it to demonstrate their fealty to him. The sword today is in the Husain mosque in Cairo, Egypt.
